Wow. Blast from the past. Ashlyn Horton talking about voluntary student unionism and how in 2005 the legislation passed. Things have been pretty shite from student service support perspective since then.

Pretty effin cool. Keynote from Richard Ryan, of SDT fame, at the National Symposium on Student Experience & Wellbeing in Higher & Education!

Can't say I'm gatecrashing when @timbocop.bsky.social invited us all, but nice to be at the Monash learning and teaching conference, with our former DVCA Liz Johnson doing the keynote!

Love it. Co-led a mentoring workshop and then delivered a guest lecture today, now jumped back into my old uni orchestra to dep piccolo for their upcoming concert.

Uhh. Learning outcome. Those words do not mean what you think they mean... 🤔

It's been 50 years since uni students were protesting about exams... And what has changed?? 🤔

This is what I went to pick up. Amusingly there appears to be a legit coffee stain on the front cover.

Terrible weather. Popped over to Burwood to pick up a library book. Half an hour free parking on the back streets, just a little bit further than the actual carpark.

I'm not sure what I expected from Graeme Turner's broken, but this miniature book wasn't it.

Reached the final panel session at #HERDSA2025, "not just another GenAI panel" with promises of real experiences and responses.

I promised not to heckle Thomas ... So guess I need to share the panel's wisdom online instead

I attended this because it had programmatic assessment in the title. Turns out @priyakhanna.bsky.social is part of the team and this preso is actually about student evaluation of teaching.

Now at Jo Dargusch's preso on how time impacts equity students. It's one resource that equity students often don't have.

Cites Penny Jane Burke's work on timescapes

Challenging myself to do a quick room change after hearing from Franziszka Lessky about students who are combining work and study. About 4 in 5 students are working while studying in both Austria and Australia.

Last day of #HERDSA2025!! I'm doing a surprise presentation at 9:30 as the last one standing out of a team of three.

Hence the real coffee to get the brain going...

Lovely to be able to attend CRADLE PhD student Anastasia Umarova's presentation at #HERDSA2025 on students' feedback experiences across contexts and time.

As expected, massive crowd to the controversial roundtable on changes to assessment of learning in a time of GenAI.

Do emotions interfere? A little but these students regulated their emotions, especially when the feedback was accurate.

Social relationships also important in peer feedback. Ultimately instructor feedback seen to be more valuable.

Keen to hear what Misty Wai-Cook has been doing on feedback literacy. Alas she's stuck with the choice between using the clicker or holding the mic.

I tried #HERDSA2025 but the lapel mic didn't want to connect!

Interestingly if you give students something nice but then take it away, they didn't like it 😂 whereas the 2D to VR group weren't as impressed by the VR
