Yes I agree. An excellent addition to the recorded catalogue ( I like the Panocha Quartet’s cycle very much).

I think that Fricsay and Kubelik reveal much interpretive nuance in the score with the former reaching deeper. However, Fricsay is not served by ideal sonics.

I have them as well ( ! ) + the Manderlings. Saw the Borodins live playing 8 and 13.

And it’s a great set that seems a bit underrated.

Great choices. His D960 is one of the great accounts.

Here’s an image of the Japanese EMI LP set of the Weingartner/ Beethoven set. There are a few digital editions but none capture the immediacy, detail and interpretive flow of the vinyl edition.

Weingartner ( old but lots of insights, balances the drama, elegance ( when it’s there) lyricism, never overblown; in some ways heralds authenticist informed performance) Karajan 1962, Savall ( manages to recreate the revolutionary creativity in the works).

Sibelius 2 Barbirolli RPO ( great work, great performance, accessible but profound); CPE Bach late keyboard sonatas and fantasias ( piano or harpsichord, tangent piano etc; amazing creativity, thrilling, exhilirating almost wild at times)

Good choices. Leinsdorf’s excerpts is impressive and in the Sheffield pressing, has great sound.
