So love, love and be free. The Arsenal.

Hamburg, DE.
Just for clarity, the point isn’t about who spent what - rather respective capacity to spend. Citeh are able to fill their squad with extremely costly players better than 90% of the league even if they don’t give them much game time or they’re not world beaters.

Ran Rodri into the ground in the process tho, and as soon as their first serious injury / aging out crisis hit they went and spent 200 million - don’t think the situations are comparable, even if we’ve remarkably come very close to matching them on the pitch for a couple of seasons

I'd rather remain in contention for the big two each season than win a competition that should either be disbanded entirely or exclude the biggest teams at least. With our injury situation of the last year or so, the reality is that it's very much either or ...

That's the eternal dilemma with this competition though, we'd all in principle love to see us win a trophy but it's standing is so lowly none of us want to occur the necessary costs along the way to doing that ...

90% of this is very on point, but the idea that Gyokeres is lacking the right passes rather than being slow on his heels is strange. See eg Rice and Saka passes in the last two games respectively.

Not having a dig, but don't see how someone can say both they have way more info than us but also they're wrong to have made the choices they did. Which isn't to say, of course, decisions are always correct and should never be questioned; more important is figuring out *why* they made ones they did.

Fully agree on Zubi, what an extraordinary player. Much bigger concerns around Gyokeres, to be so peripheral in a game like that (even with the caveats about coming back from injury, still adapting etc) is very troubling and does nothing to assuage the concerns that were there before he even signed.

Well done to you and the team, you touch so many lives in ways unknown. And for that, I am very grateful!
December 2, 2025 at 9:10 AM
Excellent, some further context besides: after Villa Park on 6 December, the only big away game we’ve got left is the Etihad. Not that there are any easy games, but that’s huge - and we’re five points clear. Perfectly fine to only take a point yesterday in the grand scheme of things.

We miss your voice on this platform for the men's stuff, Tim - I assume you've been obliged to go back to the other place purely for reasons of traffic. But just wanted to say that : )

Agreed on the wrong ones, baffling as it was so obvious as well ... I'm also intrigued to see what happens in the next month or so with Slot - imagine the reaction with someone like Wirtz if they do let him go. So not without its own repercussions to twist rather than stick as well.

A slight caveat, I don't think the issue is that they signed too many players this summer per se but rather too many starting XI ones. Without getting into tribalism, Arsenal signed an unprecedented (by their standards) 8 - yet the only one who is almost guaranteed to start every game is Zubimendi.

Random thoughts: religion always emotive subject for its detractors, reaction not to be either underestimated or taken personally; most sad for me is not appreciating how faith can also inspire a person to greatness (not only evil); interesting Q re Arsenal how deliberate is this from Arteta and co?

Get quite a few Bayern fans up here in the north as well: absolutely shushed a pub half full of the eejits, in a way that kind of just hung in the air, with that second half performance and third goal. Silence is golden never rang truer. WATTBA.

Rice/Zubi embody the perfect blend of technicality and physicality you need to thrive in the PL, how that stacks up against the gold standard I don’t know : ) I always thought we played our best football when I t was J20 and Rice in the middle, and I find Zubi a very good heir to J20
November 25, 2025 at 8:38 AM
Thanks for the ask, chaps! I agree - change out both full backs definitely, then maybe Noni for Leo and even someone for Zubimendi (but who ...)?
November 24, 2025 at 7:21 PM
How would you approach, in terms of team selection and endeavour, a Bayern midweek group stage CL game that we in no way need to win when it seems the PL title is there for the taking this season if we can maintain the energy levels and fitness of core players? @gunnerblog.bsky.social #arsecastextra

Two addenda (rather than counters, still early to make definitive claims either way): Of current top ten, Chelsea have P5 W1 D1 L3. Also, if they weren't so hot on young/new players they might be even better with this season proving how important stability is to performance (not only in title race).
November 23, 2025 at 11:43 AM
And now completely factually inaccurate anyway ...
November 9, 2025 at 6:56 PM
This feels like a classic case of cherrypicking in order to present a pessimistic/negative narrative, never heard anyone talk about top seven or bottom seven teams before. What about, say, if it was top ten and bottom ten?
November 9, 2025 at 5:27 PM
Actually agree, but can see why after the run of defensive performances we’ve been on and Mosquera doing really well so far Legohead would think it’d be enough to see it through - and only a mistake from Raya proved him wrong. Fine margins : )
November 9, 2025 at 8:15 AM
Agreed. Point is that he *could* in principle have done something different, but may well have led to same outcome anyway given options available so 💁🏼‍♂️
