I never read that series. But I hated the format that the last book took to tell it's story. It's very possible that a visual representation will be easier to follow (basically the book had lots of time jumps, with chapters switching back and forth without any context so I just felt lost).

I really hope the last 1/3 of the show is better than the last 1/3 of the books.
