A similar bill was introduced in the U.S. (SB 1291) but (unsurprisingly) stalled in committee.

My talk today illustrated how Ts aren’t using inquiry to connect and contribute to communities. Maybe we begin to redesign how we talk about inquiry?

I’m actually giving a talk about this tomorrow, arguing that authentic assessment might not actually prepare students for career readiness like we think it does. I love authentic assessment but it needs to be tied to an understanding of knowledge work practices

I don’t disagree. I think there might be a distinction though between “trashy reads” and “reading” on social media (which youth say they do most often). While we might not want to genre-shame, we need to look at the type (fun, analysis), range (genres), and length of text.

Maybe… but students seem to be struggling with sustained reading. That we are seeing the same in adults too (those who used to read a lot) is also telling. I think it is pointing to social factors, not just changes in student preference

With college admissions offices divorced from university faculty discussions about curriculum, I don’t see the demand for the current AP model changing either
