It has ever been thus...look at domestic appliances. The hoover, oven and washing machine in domestic settings didn't bring homemakers more leisure time, it just made them available for different labour. It's stupid and frustrating on so many levels.

In fairness, this could be my failure but after 40+ instructions and 2+ hours it didn't seem a good use of time.

Postdoc. It's a really hard thing to see PhD students coming through at the moment. It was always tough but it's Hunger Games level now.

I changed faculties from mostly individually taught modules to nearly all team taught modules & I love it. I enjoy the collegiality & having other people to bounce ideas off. It also helps to have other people to shoulder some of the organisation/admin load if we we want to try something new.

I went 0.2 of my time to get a 1.0 FTE 21-month PDRA contract (from a 2 year project). It is hard (near impossible) to accurately charge for the hours spent.
