When you do get your furry friend, a little olive oil or butter on their paws when you bring them home. Supposedly they like the scent of their old place off and treat your place like home faster.

Happy Holidays - and may all of you try to honor the meaning and spirit of christmas in your heart all year long!

While I hope for many an individual to be visited by their Ghosts... even the ones who may be more Gravy than grave...and hope for redemption... there is one final bit of Christmas comfort I can offer - the recipe for Smoking Bishop... which is delightful::

"Scrooge was better than his word. He did it all, and infinitely more; and to Tiny Tim, who did not die, he was a second father. He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew, or any other good old city, town, or borough, in the good old world. "

" “A merrier Christmas, Bob, my good fellow, than I have given you, for many a year! I’ll raise your salary, and endeavour to assist your struggling family, and we will discuss your affairs this very afternoon, over a Christmas bowl of smoking bishop, Bob!"

What a turn about...

He visits his nephew... someone who is his only family left... he begins the hard task of mending fences... He then finds and visits the lone long suffering employee of his....

"What’s to-day, my fine fellow?” said Scrooge.

“To-day!” replied the boy. “Why, Christmas Day.”

“It’s Christmas Day!” said Scrooge to himself. “I haven’t missed it. The Spirits have done it all in one night. They can do anything they like."”

He sees things awful and terrible. He sees the sadness of poor tiny Tim's passing.

Somewhere between three ghosts visiting him and awaking he has an epiphany...

"“I haven’t heard,” said the man with the large chin, yawning again. “Left it to his company, perhaps. He hasn’t left it to me. That’s all I know.”

This pleasantry was received with a general laugh."

His greatest desire summed up in a nothing laugh... no love nor fond remembrance for Scrooge!

The third ghost shows Scrooge his death. Provides the lesson once again - you can not take it with you!

“What has he done with his money?” asked a red-faced gentleman with a pendulous excrescence on the end of his nose, that shook like the gills of a turkey-cock."

Ah yes Scrooge was all about $

"This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased."

We must erase ignorance. It is the cause of Doom... and we have been warned...

The second ghost comes... and while he shows Scrooge that which is being made merry around him it is the end of his time with scrooge that often weighs on my mind. For under his robe he hides two small and starving figures. To children in dire need:

The Fezziwig Ball:
December 19, 2024 at 4:03 PM
"Fezziwig laid down his pen, & looked up at the clock, which pointed to the hour of seven. He rubbed his hands; adjusted his capacious waistcoat; laughed all over himself, ... ; & called out in a comfortable, oily, rich, fat, jovial voice:

“Yo ho, there! Ebenezer!Dick!" (and he had friends)

“Why, it’s old Fezziwig! Bless his heart; it’s Fezziwig alive again!”

Scrooge - did not start with a cold and hardened heart he had good examples... he KNEW joy!

“I wear the chain I forged in life,” replied the Ghost. “I made it link by link, and yard by yard; I girded it on of my own free will, and of my own free will I wore it. Is its pattern strange to you?”
