Creating Equalz is a partner in the Pamoja Njia Bora Programme (Together, We’ll Find the Best Path Forward) - a specialist response to those causing harm across Black, African, Caribbean, and Mixed Heritage communities, developed as part of the Drive Partnership’s National Systems Change work.

This week, we're pleased to hear from April Dawn Ventour - Head of Culture, Diversity and Inclusion at Eve and Director at Creating Equalz - on her activism, remaining resilient in her work towards systemic change, and ensuring intersectional, lived experience is always centred from the outset.

"Restart aims to close these gaps, ensuring that families are identified and supported sooner, and children and adult victim-survivors can remain safe and together."

As outlined by The Drive Partnership Director, Kyla Kirkpatrick, "children experience domestic abuse long before it becomes visible to others, with vital opportunities for early intervention frequently missed and long lasting impacts often overlooked."

This pivotal change will put children’s safety at the centre of Family Court decision-making, where it has always belonged, and is the result of tireless campaigning by Claire Throssell MBE and others across the sector to ensure that children’s lives are not put at risk due to unsafe contact orders.

We need transparency, accountability, and urgent action to hold those causing harm to account.

Following the BBC Panorama investigation earlier this month and the 2023 Casey Review, this review and the lack of transparency around it is further evidence of deep-rooted systemic issues causing harm to Black, minoritised, and migrant communities.

The open letter calls on the Government to scrap its May 2025 White Paper, which will deepen the hostile environment already being faced by migrant victim-survivors of violence and exploitation.
