Eclecticism. Not random, just tangential. Possibly not here at all. Seeking refuge from that other place.
Yeah, but read the link. The phone call is coming *from inside the house*

I've always had that in parallel to Paul Auster's opening for Leviathan - published the same year as The Crow Road:
"Six days ago, a man blew himself up by the side of a road in northern Wisconsin."
1992 - an exceptional year for people exploding in opening sentences.

Snakes also wait at cavemouths to catch returning bats in mid-air, so you've also got a vague turducken variation possibility

Both-sideism is clearly a major issue, it's a substitute for objectivity and any form of moral authority. But as the piece I linked points out - it's the right they're feared of.

The reaction to the Panorama edit has been nothing short of hysterical. Yes the BBC has some impartiality problems. But its biggest isn't the one you think.
New piece from me.

Oh I don't think they should back down, but it doesn't really matter that Trump won't win, he can keep them having to pay expensive lawyers for years - while the Mail/Telegraph/etc. keep shouting "left wing bias". Eventually they'll get shafted by the gov. - this or next.

He's also launching a huge lawsuit, which will be expensive to defend - fishing for settlement. He extorted US media orgs like this, but he's got more power there.
Lastly, this is just an escalation by the usual suspects (Mail, Telegraph, etc.) who've been trying to kill the bbc for years

Couple of things though: the world leader in question is a petulant tyrant who slapped extra tariffs on Canada because they showed a clip of Reagan being -ve about tariffs, so prob. a little political pressure being exerted on them now

Meanwhile its "translation" from Swedish refers to the Great Horned Owl as the Virginia vulture, the Virginia grebe and the Virginia creeper. This is quite an impressive taxonomic range.

Also, my position is 100% not cynical. Disbelieving women reporting rape and sexual abuse because of the slim statistical possibility that they're lying for some benefit of their own is what's cynical.

And none of this is a criminal trial. We make judgements every single day about who is trustworthy and who isn't, who we want to work/play with and who we don't, who we think is nice, or good, or clever and who isn't. You say you wait for your *own personal conclusion* - that's not a criminal trial

Nobody is talking about rumours here. We're talking about direct allegations - which the police acted on - from a woman that went public and presented some evidence. Who you give the benefit of the doubt to is your own business, I chose, on the basis of evidence presented, to give it to her.
