Apparently when investors wanted Lynch’s surreal scenes cut from “The Elephant Man,” Brooks responded:
"We screened the film to bring you up to date as to the status of that venture. Do not misconstrue this as our soliciting the input of raging primitives."

Mel Brooks was the uncredited producer of David Lynch's film “The Elephant Man”. He witheld his name from the credits because he did not want audiences to expect a comedy. After a screening of the film “The Elephant Man”, investors wanted the surreal scenes cut. Brooks responded: "We screened the film to bring you up to date as to the status of that venture. Kyle MacLachlan pays tribute to David Lynch: "Forty-two years ago, for reasons beyond my comprehension, David Lynch plucked me out of obscurity to star in his first and last big budget movie. He clearly saw something in me that even I didn’t recognize. I owe my entire career, and life really, to his vision. What I saw in him was an enigmatic and intuitive man with a creative ocean bursting forth inside of him. He was in touch with something the rest of us wish we could get to. Our friendship blossomed on Blue Velvet and then Twin Peaks and I always found him to be the most authentically alive person I’d ever met. David was in tune with the universe and his own imagination on a level that seemed to be the best version of human. He was not interested in answers because he understood that questions are the drive that make us who we are. They are our breath. While the world has lost a remarkable artist, I’ve lost a dear friend who imagined a future for me and allowed me to travel in worlds I could never have conceived on my own. I can see him now, standing up to greet me in his backyard, with a warm smile and big hug and that Great Plains honk of a voice. We’d talk coffee, the joy of the unexpected, the beauty of the world, and laugh. His love for me and mine for him came out of the cosmic fate of two people who saw the best things about themselves in each other. Even with the massive influx of new users, mods are doing great work weeding out trolls.

Also, a friendly reminder: please take a second to vet blocklists. Troll farms etc are using bait-&-switch tactics.
Bluesky user @endharrassment.net has confirmed that K—farms is making look alike blocklists that show the blocking of MAGA, Nazis, etc, and slipped in are prolific trans creators and other leftists. "This is the next phase that Kiwi Farms members have stated they will do - constructing look-alike blocklists and then adding popular trans people to them after the fact, once the blocklist is seeded in the community. Make sure any block list you use says who runs it"

Prior neuroimaging studies have shown that semantic information in spoken language is represented in multiple regions in the human cerebral cortex, while amodal semantic information appears to be represented in a few broad brain regions. However, previous studies were too insensitive to determine whether semantic representations were shared at a fine level of detail rather than merely at a coarse scale. We used fMRI to record brain activity in two separate experiments while participants listened to or read several hours of the same narrative stories, and then created voxelwise encoding models to characterize semantic selectivity in each voxel and in each individual participant. We find that semantic tuning during listening and reading are highly correlated in most semantically selective regions of cortex, and models estimated using one modality accurately predict voxel responses in the other modality. These results suggest that the representation of language semantics is independent of the sensory modality through which the semantic information is received.

And I like it better for two related reasons. 1. On a phone call, your friend/audience can ask clarifying questions in real time. When you're doing a radio show or podcast, the audience can't ask those questions. That's more in line with how alt text works. Screenshot 2 of 4 2. On a phone call with your friend, you know who is in your audience and you probably have some idea of things they'd be familiar with and you can use shorthand or not explain certain important things. On a podcast or radio show, you can only make broad assumptions about your audience. This is also more in line with how alt text works. You don't know who all is going to be coming across and using your alt text, so you don't want to make tons of assumptions about what details relevant to the context your audience already knows. When you're describing the image to your friend, they might be more inclined to be patient with you if you get overly descriptive instead of focusing on the most pertinent details to get the message across. On your podcast or radio show, you need to be brief. And that's again more like alt text. You want to get the relevant point across but you don't want to take more time or words or detail than necessary to do it. Screenshot 4 of 4 4. The other thing is—imagining you're describing the image as part of a radio show or podcast sort of already implies there's a specific context, right? You're going to be describing this image to your audience For A Reason and you want them to understand the image in the context of that reason. And that is pretty much exactly the goal of alt text. If your audience can't see the image, what do they need to know about it for it to be relevant in the context of the rest of the information you're providing to them and where you're sharing the image?

Keep forgetting to add alt text?

Go to: Bluesky Settings > Accessibility

Toggle on "Require alt text before posting" setting

Now when you upload an image but forget to add alt text, the Post button will not be clickable, & a warning banner alerts you alt text is missing. Add alt text to post.

A new window will pop up, showing the image AND an alt text field [2] where the description can be entered.

Enter description > save > post.
