Drawn to landscapes and architecture but not averse to venturing outside of my comfort zone with a camera in front of my face. I adore most forms of art but I am most at home in the realm of photography.🏞️

Digital and film.
I'm calling upon the #EastCoastKin collective to share your favorite art feeds in the comments. Here are just a few of the feeds I follow. There are some really fantastic artists hiding in these feeds and I am constantly looking for more.

Happy Friday and go make some great art this weekend!

Why is this important? The Camera Obscura is how French inventor Joseph Nicéphore Niépce was able to capture "View from the Window at Le Gras", the oldest surviving photograph on a light-sensitive pewter plate, dated c. 1826-1827. After eight hours, this marks the birth of photography!

Some friends and I used this opportunity to take portraits of ourselves that night. I placed my DSLR inside the camera under the lens, pointed at the back wall to capture the moment. We were a little close to the lens, so we were projected onto the ceiling. Exposure time was four minutes.

The smaller the aperture, the sharper but dimmer, the image is. This can result in long exposure times to capture an image, which I mention later. The variables are hard to control but that's part of the fun!

In this case, the surface is the back wall of this small room. Once the light has passed through the pinhole, the resulting image is a horizontally and vertically reversed projection of the view outside. The resulting image is often blurry depending on the size, or aperture, of the pinhole.

Time for a bit of a throwback to that time in 2014 when I was in college and we built a #CameraObscura for Art Day. A thread.

For those that do not know, a Camera Obscura occurs when rays of light pass through a pinhole into a dark space onto a surface.

If you need to be at a computer to figure this out, don't worry about getting back to me immediately. I'm patient.

Do I need to adjust the lower and upper thresholds? If I hover over each one they give a different explanation of the values. I somewhat understand what it's saying but not 100%.

I am getting ready to use your workflow on a test image. Is this the gamut clipping tool you were talking about? I think these are the default settings. Do I need to change anything?

Typically my photos are very clean, controlled, and of nature/landscapes. David Lynch and Twin Peaks were my direct inspirations for shooting in such a dreamy way. I allowed myself to get a little experimental/messy and I think it was largely a success.

I didn’t have any equipment with me so I pulled out my phone and used the Pocket Camera on the #Darkr app to capture my friend’s special evening. It worked out.

Stylistically, this is very different from my normal photography.

I have been in a creative and inspirational drought for around eight years now and have barely touched my cameras in that time. Two of my good friends got married last weekend and I felt a creative spark I haven’t felt in years.
