I'm in dsa and used to be in the green party. I'm asking people to do the minimal amount of work possible in real life... Which is to go vote... And I'm facing backlash for it. I see y'all and don't see results in most methods that aren't harm reduction and mutual aid.

Well if I remember correctly, he didn't get the votes in the primaries... Even though he was far more popular in every poll. It's almost like people didn't show up to vote for him.

I wish I was a spunky pup.

Plus it's not like the Republicans care and aren't just doing what their donors want... The tea party still took them down... and we don't have 3rd parties by constitutional scheme. So primaries are where we gotta focus.

WE ARE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. WE have to make them care. They don't just decide to care one day. That happens when we vote out their incumbents bc it cannot be a stat fluke. Incumbents win 80% of the time in Congress and 90% in Senate mainly based on name recognition. They're weakest in primaries.
May 5, 2025 at 8:12 PM
Does your lived experience include broad participation in the electoral system?

Probably not.

Because it hasn't been done. People buy into the myth that voting can't change anything so they don't try (15% turnouts) and it feeds the cycle. It worked for the bastards in the tea party. Just saying.
May 5, 2025 at 7:54 PM
I can do two things at once and I am pissed, but they wouldn't be in power if people voted in the primaries.

The tea party showed us it was possible to oust incumbents in primaries if people showed up to vote. Fuck all of them and their ideas, but they did get their way with that tactic.
May 5, 2025 at 7:48 PM
"At the time" is wild.

I've been organizing, but I'm not a miracle worker. I'm not gonna be able to turnout 1 million by myself. I have to have accomplices. Where are the people who want to do the work instead of complain that the game is rigged?
May 5, 2025 at 7:45 PM
Voting? I've literally been saying that.

Now maybe it's unavoidable if people don't want to vote. Won't show up to protest. Won't take ANY action of civil disobedience. Won't join their union.

I'm begging for any engagement from the left to take power instead of whine and make excuses.
May 5, 2025 at 7:38 PM
We can't focus ire upward if no one is voting. We need people to see that not voting leads to worse outcomes.

Can't win a union vote if the peep who would benefit from the union don't vote. It takes convincing and talking at length about the shitty sitch to find solutions to fix it and then do it
May 5, 2025 at 7:36 PM
You're literally asking for a bloody revolution where millions die. Is that a more worthy cause than trying to change the system democratically and peacefully to socialism? The revolution will cost most to those that have the least. Did you read Marx or Mao and Lenin?
May 5, 2025 at 7:31 PM
It was mainly about the entirety of civil rights, reconstruction, etc. A lot of people from all walks of life, government affiliated or not put their life on the line for democratic principles. In fact, mostly black men and women have fought for the right to vote and then were killed for that cause
May 5, 2025 at 7:27 PM
You coulda just said poppycock. It would have been more entertaining.
May 5, 2025 at 7:23 PM
You missed my comment on how 15% of people showed up to the primaries where there were hundreds of Dem politicians running that didn't support the genocide. People did not show up to vote for them and then pointed to primary reults as a reason they shouldn't vote in November.
May 5, 2025 at 7:19 PM
People fought for what little we have. Choosing to trash it all is spitting in the face of that. There are people alive right now that weren't allowed to vote. We have more democracy than they did. We have more democracy than a lot of countries. Not defending what we have will put peeps at risk of ⚰️
May 5, 2025 at 7:17 PM
And I'm arguing very persistently that not voting when someone says we'll never have to vote again is in fact allowing that person to put their plan into action and fulfilling the paradox i mentioned.
May 5, 2025 at 7:14 PM
I'm one of the people on the chopping block. This is gallows humor my frog.
May 5, 2025 at 7:11 PM
You don't know me or what I've done... But I can Guarantee I did more in 2024 than you'll do for this struggle in your whole life.
May 5, 2025 at 7:08 PM
It's a joke.

I've already been fighting for this shit for most of my adult life.
May 5, 2025 at 7:06 PM
The paradox of voting is that in order for it to remain a right, People must vote to continue the democracy. If no one votes but the result is binding, not voting is a vote to end democracy. Or allowing the right to be stripped. People didn't vote->some guy says you'll never get to vote again.
May 5, 2025 at 7:06 PM
you make it sound like something that we could all just stop doing and everything would go just fine. If not voting is democratic, that means those people made not an inactive choice but an active choice to let Gazans and migrants suffer & is even more damning of choice to let him have his way imo
May 5, 2025 at 7:06 PM
Alright, glad I got my passport and documents ready. Y'all are really just gonna hand them the mandate to kill any minority they want without a fight. Cool. Cool.
