Probably the least-cool guy in the world.
I like to watch films. #FilmSaga.

#FilmSaga 125: Midsommar
Wicker Man vibes throughout this. The pacing was deliberately slow and drawn out, but it helped. The community seemed to get weirder with every passing scene. There were some legitimate laugh out loud moments, and the weirdest sex scene I've ever seen.

#FilmSaga 124: Uncut Gems
A rare treat, seeing a film starring Adam Sandler and not hating it and despising him. Oh wait, I still despised him for pretty much the entirety of this film, but at least this time he's playing an actual scumbag. Uncut Gems is 2+ hours of anxiety and it was bloody great.

#FilmSaga 123: Miracle in Cell #7
So I expected this to be a tearjerker. What I didn't expect was to pretty much spend the entire last ninety minutes in or on the verge of tears. What an emotionally heavy film, but wow, it was truly beautiful too. That was so, so good.

On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked,

"If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?"

Allow our scaled diagram to explain...

#FilmSaga 122: Videodrome
Having watched Crimes of the Future fairly recently, it's clear Cronenberg had a thing for body horror. I much preferred this. It felt it had a clearer through line and progression.
I guess "long live the new flesh" wasn't just a catchy line in a Fear Factory song either.

#FilmSaga 121: Europa Report
Man, I really liked this, and it's a little mad I waited a few weeks to actually watch it when it came out the cup.
A found-footage film about a space mission to Europa in search of life. Super slick, interesting and well made for, what appeared to be a low budget film.

#FilmSaga 120: Arrival
A little bit Contact, which is a good thing. I was frustrated with the "we don't listen" military guys being really "we don't listen" at times, but it comes together well with a really good final act.
Would I want to be able to see the future? It would make dating easier!

#FilmSaga 119: Barbarian
One of the better modern horrors I've seen (I've still not seen loads). Loads of tension, but I'd be lying if I said I was a little deflated when I realised it was all a bit "The Hills Have Eyes" under a house. I expected some big twist, I got a big freaky woman.

#FilmSaga 118: Big Man Japan
Might be the weirdest film I've ever seen. Shot documentary style, it follows Big Man Japan- a man who can grow to enormous size to fight monsters. Weird fucking monsters, at that.
Slow to start but some real laugh out loud moments. It's a grower. See what I did there?

#FilmSaga 117: The Lobster
This was one of those absurd-but-hilarious, Grand Budapest Hotel types, whilst also feeling kind of remote and "huh?"
Every character was like, spectrum awkward, which just added to the flavour and seeing random flamingos and camels in the woods just cherry-topped it.

#FilmSaga 116: Under the Silver Lake
Okay that might be the weirdest film I've seen in a long time. I'm confused. Like, was that real? Was it fantasy? I was expecting some big reveal at the end but it finished as oddly as it began. So many questions...

#FilmSaga 115: Gaia
Some of the shots in this were gorgeous, but overall it was a pretty boring affair. Fungi growing out of skin will always give me the ick. Not really a whole lot more to say about it, to be honest...

#FilmSaga 114: They Look Like People
One part alien invasion, one part exploration into schizophrenia, and throughout most of the film, I wasn't sure which way the pendulum was going to swing. The low budget actually helps humanise the small but effective cast, but a good, not great journey.

#FilmSaga 113: True Romance
...or a film about being in the wrong place but the right time to get the hell out of Dodge. What an absolute ensemble of names. I had no idea what this was going to be like going in, and then I saw "written by Quinten Tarantino" and the rest was history. Loads of fun.

Doing this thing on Twitter/X where I watch a bunch of films drawn from a cup, then afterwards I rank and write a tweet-length review. Feel like maybe it's time to bring it over here.
Just finished watching Moon Garden and this was the verdict. What a gem of a film.
