Can anyone identify this plant? Found in historic cemetery in the the woods in South Carolina. Does not appear to belong with the other foliage. I think it was planted intentionally. It is found only at gravesites.

This is a newspaper ad from SE Oklahoma in 1952. The L'Ouverture School was for Black students in McAlester. The trademark for the roof was so typical, using the likeness of an American Indian to prove "Americanness."
