Fascinating talk w. Michael Rosen and Philip Seargeant about place names which so often provide a clue to the past. Loved that 'gate' has two different meanings; the scary thing is that when things are renamed, history can be forgotten - 'Mount Pleasant' and even 'Sellafield' are good examples
Listened to this yesterday - absolutely fascinating - as are all of @michaelrosenyes.bsky.social podcasts. V interesting explanations of weird street names and distinctions between roads and streets.
Here's the link to last week's Word of Mouth, in which I discuss the language of street names with @michaelrosenyes.bsky.social

open.spotify.com/episode/0LYM... Loved this panel discussion on Free Speech and Literature. Key takeaways: online selves r fictions; SM comms are ltd by major corps; all arts are affected by 'lets not cause offence' culture & polarisation; a move twds 'equity of expression' as a more rounded term.

I loved this discussion about freespeech and artificial intelligence with @philipseargeant.bsky.social and Julia Bell. Well worth a listen: key takeaway the book is enduring, it allows space for imagination and dreaming; AI cannot trump human minds #freespeech #creativewiring #artificialintelligence

I haven't seen Giant yet (am going in May) but this discussion with playwright Mark Rosenblatt is excellent, talking about (among other things) how and if Roald Dahl's antisemitism colours his own reading of the books.
