The real thing I want @wesstreeting to know is now, people will be in a frenzy. They’ll be submitting applications to anything and everything so they can have a job that pays the bills. They’ll be taking up posts they don’t really want, then dropping out. This is a crisis. It needs an emergency fix.

Every year the bottlenecks get worse, more don’t get in, more apply the next year, and the government keep increasing the medical school student places. This is not the solution. You need to know this is not the solution.

ACPs and PAs are being used to replace doctors across the country.

So why have I come on twitter to rant to you all about this? You will see doctors in their hundreds unemployed, unable to get work. Locum shifts are drying up. The only one other way we can work in the nhs is as a fellow, and there are hundreds of applicants to each job.

Thousands of UK doctors will have been rejected today. Don’t believe me? The proof is here: medical.hee.nhs.uk/medical-traini….

That previous link is for last year and the situation is worse this year. IMT has gone from around 6000 to 8000 applicants, job numbers have been fairly static for years.

Before you say, oh, you must not be competitive, I scored over average in the exam, plus 289 in 1/2 sections which typically around less than 10% achieve. I have presented at national conferences, publications, ran my own teaching programme, am conducting an audit, and in good standing with the GMC.
