You're cooking something good. Monsters may offer more space to play around with a hopeful premise.

Two sides of the same coin.

Definitely need to take a deeper look at Chronicles of Darkness.

M:tA revised edition is also one of my favourite games. Unfortunately, adjudicating spells is easily left to the ST which removes agency from players. I think owning your spells is one of the most important factors in expressing your own paradigm while handling paradox.

I like to think that every #ttrpg deserves to have all kinds of simulacra as alternative ways of engaging with their niche thing.

For me, the divide is in the willingness to learn tabletop games. If you're fine with not really learning any RPG, you just need to show up for the most popular thing.

"AI artifice" is a more precise and helpful label: youtu.be/ZFitkz5VJvI A machine choir that follows human artistic voices.

TTRPGs as we know them are deeply rooted in literacy and we've lost the plot on that. They also require time and space, all things we're also losing as we work all the time and can't afford a home. This affects all tabletop games but RPGs are particularly tied to big books and big sessions.

2024: "will always be offered" 😌
2025: "always is such a strong word" 💩

Given the long time horizon for tabletop RPGs, one approach people are totally onboard today may not be want they're in the mood for next week. That's my generous understanding, at least.

I'm on the same boat, but I can understand the pushback to that. People may want to modulate how much energy they're ready to invest in each session. Everyone has bad days where they don't want to be on 100%. What I'm not so sympathetic about is pushing back against everyone playing some GM role.

I like that approach, it's been used in #pbta games like the Kult #ttrpg

As a general concept, it's so important that everyone at the table should prep. Read the friendly #ttrpg manual, folks. Then read it again between sessions.
