So @revisedangel.bsky.social, it's a good thing I don't really celebrate Christmas. Because that would mean my having an advent calendar would fasten me to linear time but lo! instead here I am safely experiencing No 8. American Metal in Vial Order. Free from the constraints of measuring my days.

So the approach of the Jaywalk was sweeter than the previous six but the flavor isn't mellow. Its full but young and one of the first time the use of the words "carmel notes" actually tastes a bit like very flammable caramel.
December 26, 2024 at 4:11 AM
Ok @revisedangel.bsky.social we are at timey wimey night 7 which is also 1st candle. It's Jaywalk Straight Rye and uses a colonial era NY rye recipe. So like absolutely in my 8 year old hyper-fixations.

I was OBSESSED with how everything got made in the colonial era.

Every time I see Post Malone performing with Taylor or Beyonce - I just keep thinking "Wow its so wild our little Magic the Gathering celebrity is up there...he's really good too!"
December 26, 2024 at 12:36 AM
Ironically this is Bulls Head Bourbon which is distilled fairly close to where I just returned from.

You know that joke where someone takes a sip, it hits the back of their throat like a truck, they gasp and choke while saying "sMoOThackkkkk"

So like that.

Pairs well with buttery cookies.

Soooo I had to leave my advent really suddenly so we're just gonna pretend time is sorta linear now that I'm back -ok @revisedangel.bsky.social ?
December 25, 2024 at 3:25 AM
Oh my god it was so good. I'm going to really drink it with intent at a decent drinking hour and spend some time with it.

But it also did the very important job of convincing my tonsils that there wasn't a reason to cough more at this juncture. Cause nothing else did
December 8, 2024 at 1:26 PM
So Bottle #5 on the advent I'm behind is Sekk Sato Shiki is a Single Grain Japanese Whisky but I'm sipping it at 8 am because something got caught in my throat and I'm trying to convince my body to stop coughing. But its AMAZING @revisedangel.bsky.social ! Like the Japanese whisky we had at McMullins

Hello Bluesky -
December 7, 2024 at 9:46 PM
I have successfully officiated The wedding I was doing - it went swimmingly, i will be back on the advent train tonight but I did do Day4 after the very long rehearsal dinner without doing any of the immersion

Here to tell you Chicken Cock whiskey pairs well with cold pizza.

So you know how sometimes your very-into-the-hobby wine friends and you agree a wine is "a perfectly nice table wine?" It's pleasant, complements without overpowering food served and is an all around team player? Good enough to sip socially but casual? This is the whiskey version of that.
December 4, 2024 at 3:02 AM
So Today's Hotel Flaviar Whiskey Adventure takes us to a nearby Winter Lodge. So it's a 43% ABV whiskey, which meant even though I did it impulsively meant it was a good choice to do "with a meal" before I looked at any of the fancy instructions.
December 4, 2024 at 1:34 AM
It's Day 3! So @revisedangel.bsky.social I'm officiating a wedding on Friday for a friend so this is the last real "I have time to cook" night this week and decided to Day 3 as a drink with dinner. So ribeye, butternut squash and mashed potatoes with some spinach soufflé and Stranahan's whiskey.
December 4, 2024 at 1:23 AM
Ok so this one is smooth and very thick but not like a syrup, more like Dwarves making an alcohol they can share with elves - so imagine someone made rocks a light sensuous liquid and you got to drink it. There's strength but no kick so that's the mellow I guess. I feel like the color is deep gold
December 3, 2024 at 4:28 AM
Ok @revisedangel.bsky.social Day 2 brings us to the Hotel Flaviar mini bar and Bhakta 1928 - straight rye fortified with Armagnac from actual 1928 - we're sipping history!
December 3, 2024 at 4:13 AM
The color is like a clarified butterscotch sauce I'd make for bread pudding.

It's way thicker on the tongue than the swirling legs thing would let you know. It tastes like polite dinner with your slightly naughty spinster aunt where you'll talk about 1910's club scene after the second pour.
December 2, 2024 at 4:34 AM
So poured about half a finger into the glass and let it air while I filled in the alt text. The approach is a little sweet and very mild but still has character, the legs on the swirl lightly coat and travel evenly around the whole glass on the journey down - I'd call the color a golden amber
December 2, 2024 at 4:27 AM
So this is the Journal Exercise - I guess I'll do it live here:
December 2, 2024 at 4:16 AM
Now you read the Lore and find out the glasses have a maker's mark on the bottom that says "The Glencairn Glass" and that your first whiskey to welcome you is Heaven's Hill like the Whiskey Gods knew I'd be doing this with you.
December 2, 2024 at 4:10 AM
So when you open the door you get a booklet, a VIP card, and a little immersive role playing introduction explaining the itinerary and giving you the instruction and you can remove the 2 glasses - which is like delivering them from a breach birth they're in so securely, but they are out, safe & sound
December 2, 2024 at 4:07 AM
Ok @revisedangel.bsky.social , you need to know that the No.1 1st day whiskey is Heaven Hill, and this Advent calendar comes with a journal project, a role playing experience and a video concierge plus Lore.
