and with a system that otherwise works fine with everything I've thrown at it music-project-wise on macOS, it makes sense to me to extend the life of the laptop as much as possible, with otherwise perfectly capable hardware.

Hoping to move music applications, if possible, to Slackware Linux as well as a test on the old desktop system. Also, with an Intel Mac laptop whose support will be ending in a few years since macOS Tahoe came out recently,

Also updated my Slackware Linux install to multi-lib for 32-bit and 64-bit support. Result: can do most things now entirely within Linux, including playing many games on Steam.

Windows networking seems unchanged operationally, though the way to connect to available networks requires an extra step from the networking taskbar icon.

Windows 11: taskbar text is much smaller, Windows start and search menu button are in the center of the taskbar (though it is possible to have those back in the typical lower-left-hand corner under settings).
