We have had many victories over bullies & megalomaniacs who legislate our marginalization, elimination, and erasure. And, we will have many more. Stay strong & vigilant. But, guess what? We won in Federal Court in 2017 and held these racist actors accountable. Their law and actions violated our Constitution. I share this as a reminder for all to not let these Executive Orders extinguish our hope and lead us to despair. 5/6

Was it hard? Yes.
Were we frightened at times? Yes.
Did liberals in our schools and community tell us to stop and that we were making things worse by not submitting to the powerful Arizona politicians and their racist and dehumanizing ideology of our families and ancestors? Yes. 4/6

Our youth and community stood up with us (the teachers) and we fought for our program in the school board room, the Capitol building, the streets, and by working even harder and smarter in our classrooms. We found strength in each other and what we knew was right, and we never cowered. 3/6

For those of you on here who don’t know, we were one of the early targets for anti-American legislation in Arizona from 2005-2012. They illegally dismantled our Mexican-American Studies program in Tucson that showed academic success for students of color never seen before or since in Tucson. 2/6

I took my infant son in his stroller to see her speak because I could not imagine missing it. Her words that night still fuel me today. Rest in Power, maestra. 😔🙏🏽✊🏽
