Thank you for sharing. I couldn't agree more. Mol Bio has given us forensic science (which was almost non-existent), disease diagnostics, DNA/Genome sequencing, molecular medicine (incl. antibiotics), and now in recent years things like CAR-T cell therapy which is transforming cancer treatment.

Thanks Darhlene, I am an atheist myself. But I'll try and be as open and honest as possible as I read the book.

Thanks Mark. I am just starting, trying not to anticipate too much. But in saying that, in the intro they have mentioned the current challenge in explaining the origin of life (a god-of-the-gaps argument). I'll wait and see what they say. Life is more tractable than the origins of the universe.

Oh, thanks, Pierrick. The book has just arrived. I will take note of this and come back to it. I'm trying to be as much of a blank slate as I can (I know it's impossible), but I will write a review before comparing it with others' reactions, but this is great for me to have when I get to that stage.

I had a look at the book's description; it looks very interesting. I'll need to check it out.

Thank you for your thoughts. There is a bit of a divide sometimes because there are claims by some holists, that it cannot be explained by physical laws (even in a future where we can model/deal with the number/complexity of interactions). But that won't be settled soon if ever.

From the article: "There have been many detailed and comprehensive critiques of the idea. In particular, from Denis Noble (8, 11) and others, but these have been culturally impotent by comparison with the fecundity of The Selfish Gene." Where I think about "The Selfish Gene" as a meme.
