But, understanding the property on a deep level and having a passion for it means you know what you can and what you shouldn't change. You know what makes the property you're adapting special and what people come to it for.

So does that mean you shouldn't change anything and just provide fan service? Absolutely not, it's a different medium and some changes will always need to be made.
September 7, 2025 at 8:28 PM
By comparison, what do you think folk that googled TLOU series saw after the first episode or two was out? Understanding the property matters a whole fucking lot creatively, but also monetarily if you want to see it that way, I just don't think studios are taking this into consideration yet.

It doesn't matter if you know the fans personally, a paramount space series based on halo is out, and you've never played Halo or know anything about it you're gonna go Google it. And the only people that are talking about it are saying it's shite, well, you see where that goes. It fizzles out.
September 7, 2025 at 8:23 PM
So getting the fans on board, should be your first line of marketing. They will start talking about it regardless, and because they're the only ones that care, they will be the only ones that are talking about it. So do you want them to be on board? Or not?
September 7, 2025 at 8:22 PM
With that I mean that at ground level, when something like a Halo TV series is announced, the only people that care are Halo fans. I god damn guarantee you, not a single person cared about a Halo TV series that was not a Halo fan beforehand when that was announced. Zero.

And while this is a creative failure, if we also want to talk business, this is bizarre as fuck as well. Why, you say? Because Halo, like most video game properties (there are exceptions) are relatively niche in the mainstream.
September 7, 2025 at 8:18 PM
Movie and TV making is hard fucking work and if the passion is not the driving force behind it, it will be shite. Sometimes that's the case even when there is passion behind it, but if you start without it there, you're fucked.
September 7, 2025 at 8:04 PM
And then we're back to "see, you can't make a good video game adaptation, they don't work" because of course most of that shit will fail. You can't make it good without the passion behind it I'm sorry.
September 7, 2025 at 8:04 PM
Back to who, what, and how they're made though, and not necessarily by untalented folk, but clearly a combination of recognisable name/want to make a bit of cash/whatever. The main issue with that is that it will get thrown to people who have no idea what makes that property what it is.

Some part of me wants to take a break and come back when 2.0 launches, if that's like March-ish next year.

But I like this dumb game and my character too damn much, so that's probably not going to happen.

Don't know what the next few months look like. Will try to do Oktoberfist, but also got so so much work in the coming months that I don't think I'll have time to practice much. I have already been quite slow to adapt to this patch because of this.

Wanted to say hi but didn't realise that was you until after you left, sucks to hear about your controller issues!

Silver linings, you somehow still made Top 8

Hey arcsys, is this correct?

I consider Ozzy and Sabbath as influential as the Beatles, or Beethoven. In the way that they shaped so, so much of what came after them. Even a lot of artists and bands that might not think they were influenced by them, yes. Yes you were! Even if it's not directly, but still.
