I’ve read that someone making ~ 60k per year pays approximately $39 a year in taxes towards SNAP. That’s all. Everyone I know is more than happy to have taxes pay to help feed those struggling.

Jim, you would be shocked to see the safety records of Republican run states. Not to mention, they have problems with education and healthcare too. Thank goodness those blue states pay so much in federal taxes to help out the red states.
