„Deep neural networks are cutting edge“ … if data is IID and relatively low D - which it almost never is.

„To become ai ready data infrastructure is required first“ there’s an asymmetry between observable information and useful information. Don’t start with the infrastructure before you’ve created any value. If it’s worth collecting it’s worth collecting manually.

„one of the greatest challenges in applied AI is high quality data“. There is no such thing as quality there’s only observation significance - either directly correlated, or interdependent. Signal is measured against noise and as long as there’s signal there’s improvement over no signal.

That’s what I call expectation management: I am at a conference and the conference chair introduces each session with: „go there but don’t expect too much“ 🤣🤣🤣

🎅🏼 A small early Christmas present from our team.

To celebrate the publication of our data extraction tutorial in Chem Soc Rev, we made it easy to run it — without any installation — on a JupyterHub of the Base4NFDI.

From text to insight: large language models for chemical data extraction
The vast majority of chemical knowledge exists in unstructured natural language, yet structured data is crucial for innovative and systematic materials design. Traditionally, the field has relied on m...

Isn’t it completely insane that you have to pick a domain in science when there’s a whole world out there. Like who cares about department boundaries?
