In WV News - WV GOP is now pro blind babies. They are pushing #HB3444 which will remove mandatory prophylactic antibiotic eye cream for newborns, mandatory reporting of cases, and mandatory treatment of infected infants.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia: ARTICLE 7. PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF COMMUNICABLE AND OTHER INFECTIOUS DISEASES. §16-3-7. Inflammation of the eyes of the newborn. [Repealed.] §16-3-8. Inflammation of the eyes of the newborn -- Duty of those assisting at childbirth to report cases; treatment. [Repealed.] §16-3-9. Inflammation of the eyes of the newborn -- Duties of local health officer. [Repealed.] §16-3-10. Inflammation of eyes of newborn -- Use of an appropriate medication as prophylactic. [Repealed.] NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to repeal the sections of code relating to the inflammation of the eyes of newborns. Strike-throughs indicate language that would be stricken from a heading or the present law and underscoring indicates new language that would be added.
