Nice! I needed some new music. Downloading all his stuff on Apple Music right now.

As a life long Apple person, I’m disgusted and 100% done. Selling my stock in the AM.

I would fail that test! Ha! Next they will only allow teachers with a only bachelors and only from an in state approved university.

I think all teachers are a little crazy. 🥰
July 31, 2025 at 10:15 PM
I’m that teacher in the hallway that doesn’t say get to class to the kid I always see out of class. I say hey, how are you and what are your future plans. How can we make that happen. Some kids look at me like I’m crazy (I am, a little) and some kids say I don’t know, no one has ever asked me that.

As a white high school science teacher for 21 years, 16 being in a high minority/AA school, I feel this in my bones. I have tried with every cell in my body, to not only do no harm (which is NOT ENOUGH) but also specifically help and support AA students and their dreams, even if they are not “mine.”

When it comes to salary increases, there is never enough money to make it comparable and they through in things like the “free professional development and wellness events” as reasons we should just be happy to have a job. At the end of the day, I am happy to have my job but PD doesn’t pay bills.
July 21, 2025 at 1:51 AM
Right! And then people throw in the “summer vacation” we get, you mean the payback for all the extra, off the clock work we do and don’t get paid for.
July 21, 2025 at 1:45 AM
I’m east coast VA. And yeah, it’s a cray schedule plus all the extra. But the stipends are life changing.
July 21, 2025 at 1:41 AM
They could absolutely pay teachers what we are worth. They choose not to. No one ever tells doctors or lawyers to take a 25-50% pay cut compared to their peers with equivalent education. Hell, now they are paying the GOPstapo $100k+ a year. It’s all civil service. We need to ask what we value.
July 21, 2025 at 1:40 AM
Yeah I make about $10k in stipends over my annual salary for my PhD, national board, career teacher (10+ years exp), mentor, freshman orientation co-coordinator, and student advisory co-coordinator. It takes me to abt $85k and keeps me from needing a second job. I teach 3 levels of chemistry daily.

I agree. We are in a metropolis so we have opportunities for jobs… but no one is hiring. None of the universities can pay what I make. The PhD is my retirement plan. I’m lucky that my district is big enough to offer multiple stipend opportunities to supplement my salary. I get $2k for clubs I run.
July 20, 2025 at 11:41 PM
I wish they paid teachers this much. I have a PhD, 21 years of teaching experience and I’m national board certified. With all those, I make $74k base salary, plus $8k in stipends for advanced degrees and certs. ICE agent has a pulse. Build prisons or support education. I see the choice they make.

This is powerful. Thanks for sharing. I wish more people did the research and admitted when they were wrong.

I’m a teacher (in VB), live in Norfolk, and my son goes to private school. I feel all of this. Academics are important, and so are sports. We have set up and impossible system for schools to function and students to excel.

I agree 100% that this is ridiculous. I can see moving that program from the Ghent school to be a school within a school or an addition to Maury Marybeth, but to replace it with a football field…. I love our city but I just don’t get it sometimes.
July 11, 2025 at 1:47 AM
I see your point. But I’ll still pass on the free fall coaster that isn’t attached to the rest of the track. Looks fun, but I’m good! I’ll let the younger generation take that on.

Absolutely the point… FD is a movie, not a documentary. Still a nope. I also do not follow logging trucks.
