Entirely depends on the area you work in. In the same way as many librarians don't know much about scholarly comms, there are also folks who don't really engage with ebooks.
I think we do best if we assume folks don't know things that seem obvious to us (in a non-patronizing).

Also, a shout out to Paul Nurse (who is no longer my boss). An incredibly approachable leader who genuinely cares about the well-being (as well as the careers ) of those who work for him.

I think the whole thing isn't that unusual, although people have fetishised it as if it is. A bunch of people were working on it & eventually someone would have got there.
Its a standard story of not being careful with IP, trusting people and those other people not really being worthy of the trust.

Ive never heard the story that she didnt understand it. She published it in nature next to the C&W model.
