#ReasonsToSupportTheBBC The Repair Shop! Ostensibly about fixing items that the public bring in BUT *really* it fixes the people - it’s guilt work, grief work, care work - it’s love!!

*Fabulous* full length poster of Russian-American actress and writer Alla Nazimova as Hedda (I was looking up the original play as I last read it as an undergrad)

Hedda is a delicious decadent delight, the camera hovering claustrophobically around first Tessa Thompson as Hedda then Nina Hoss as Eileen Lovborg (both *exceptional*) - loved the dance to ‘It’s Oh So Quiet’ 🖤

Creature schmeature - if you’re an academic, I gleefully inform you Victor Frankenstein is One of Us 🖤

Predator: Badlands is a super fun, super pulpy, super cute sci fi / 12A horror about hunting for your found family of a chirpy android and a hard shelled monkey creature with fun stuff about ecology and doubling and repetition and maybe the slightest whiff of Freudian psychosexuality 🖤

Del Toro’s Frankenstein is a great, failed reading of the novel, replacing a young woman’s with an old man’s gothic in its overriding desire for innocent son (he might kill some sailors but leaves the Frankenstein family untouched) to forgive monstrous father-it’s a chiaroscuro of the care home! 5/5

Striking crockery from 2007 commemorating the abolition of the slave trade with an anti-abolitionist vomiting onto a plate painted on paint and a jug below with a portrait of a black man

The Harris in Preston has been refurbished and it’s stunning - Wallace & Gromit exhibition a delight!

I watched the new Netflix Frankenstein as it was designed to be watched: on Netflix, with a friend 🖤

I was worried I wasn’t going to love it but it was intensely loveable from the start: gorgeous, Mexican, campy, deliberately and accidentally funny, moving, and delicious!

It’s time for this banger of a poem (I imagine it sung by Big Thief in the style of ‘Not’)

Turner: Always Contemporary curated by @hosmeriana.bsky.social is fantastic and well worth a visit to the Walker - lots of Liverpool artists and lesser known pieces among the Turner treasures 🖤

Here is my sad - but purring - nearly Toothless little guy

Thoughts and prayers for Wilbur our black cat - who someone once said reminded them of Toothless - as he only has 1 tooth left after some much necessary dentistry today 🖤💔🖤

Feeling slightly threatened by all the ducks at the duck pond given I don’t have any duck food for them 🦆

Frankenstein felt like work so I enjoyed instead The Mastermind: the story of an irresponsible father whose grand plans turn ugly and who ends up fleeing the consequences of his actions

Planned all week to go and see Frankenstein today

Spotted this book in a colleague’s office at Open Day and now I want to write ‘Understanding _Understanding Lorrie Moore_’ (inspired by one of her short stories in which a character gives up on academia after reading ‘How to Read _How to Read Lacan_’)
