Is this really supposed to be unironically funny?

It's a beast to sing. I think it's actually a great anthem, but way too over-saturated to mean much anymore. Especially when you're publicly shamed into standing for it every time. They even play it at my old-man hockey league championship game. I spend the whole time fighting back eyerolls.
