Would also suggest brevity over accuracy. "Find the broccoli. Save the world"

Instead of the minutiae of how the broccoli is spawned and what you must do with it.

Lean into the fantasy of this wacky world, and try not to explain the design.

Looking good. I would avoid text cards that do not strike at the core conceit of your game. Whereas "Fight" may be relevant to the core premise, "grab and throw", or "swing" are probably best left to the images. When in doubt, text card to explain the goal and why, images to explain the how.

Gotcha. Is working your way through the process the point of the experience?

As someone unfamiliar with the smelting process, is there UI to indicate what I should be doing? Assume it's just cropped.

This is of course not the whole story. There are developers, at all levels, pushing boundaries, trying new things, and fighting for ideas that surprise and inspire. The spirit of innovation is still alive; it just has to work a lot harder to break through in today’s system.

I am a huge proponent of using metrics and analytics to make a better game. We're fortunate to have this information to help us make the best decisions for our players. The risk is when you let those metrics drive the creative process; and being unwilling to try new ideas without proven results.

Valheim is a perfect example of devs that are taking established formulas and infusing creative, new ideas. If anything, I think this aligns with my thoughts in the thread. This is what the industry needs more of! As I say in the thread, these problems aren't with ALL games, but it is prevalent.
