Does anyone else like to mispronounce things for fun? My grandma used to call ninjas nymphs and statues statutes. Mum does it too. I take it to unbearable levels though😅 And I focus on food. Mum and little bro follow my lead so ALL food is renamed something weird.

He leaned over his sleeping beauty, hands braced on either side of that still form. Izzy made another tiny sound, his body shifting restlessly, as if some deep part of him was trying to escape. Stede's weight held him fast. "Yes, my darling, fight your way back to me," he whispered hoarsely. Each sound, each shift was proof the spell was finally weakening. His hips moved with desperate purpose, seeking the connection that would shatter the curse forever. "Now we become one," he gasped against Izzy's throat, "as true lovers must. The final magic to break the spell—" His breathing came ragged, his movements frantic as he chased the moment when love would conquer all. And then, in a rush of overwhelming devotion, he gathered love's sweetest reward. Afterward, as his breathing slowly steadied, Stede gazed down at his prince with profound satisfaction. The curse was lifted at last. The terrible urgency that had driven him was gone, replaced only by loving gratitude. He took out his handkerchief and drew it carefully across bruised skin, erasing any evidence of their sacred union. The cloth grew warm and damp, and he let out a contented sigh. His fingers moved with the certainty of countless repetitions; each gesture practiced to perfection. Then he softly redressed his sleeping prince, each touch a quiet blessing. Stede noticed the tracks of moisture on Izzy's cheeks, tears that had fallen in sleep. "Oh, my love," he whispered, dabbing them away with the same cloth. "Even your dreams know how much you needed this." He folded the soiled handkerchief with reverent care, tucking it close to his heart. A precious token of their love. “Rest now, my darling,” he whispered, arranging Izzy with the practiced care of long habit. He smoothed the blanket, erasing every trace of destiny’s work. Tomorrow, dear Izzy would wake confused and angry again, muttering about strange dreams as he'd taken to doing lately. Poor troubled soul. But Stede would be there to offer comfort, to soothe away such silly notions with gentle authority. "Just nightmares from the medicine, nothing more." He pressed one final kiss to that peaceful brow and whispered the words that made his heart sing: "And so they lived happily ever after, the gentleman pirate and his sleeping rose, bound together by truest love, night after tender night, until the end of time."

Once upon a time, there lived a gentleman pirate blessed with great wisdom, for he alone knew love's secret truth: that the most precious treasures lie hidden beneath the sharpest thorns. Thus, fate had entrusted him with a sacred duty—to tend his beloved briar rose. And so, as darkness fell upon the ship, he answered true love’s call. Stede slipped through the shadows of the ship's belly, his pulse thrumming with sweet expectation as he approached the cabin where his beloved waited. The midnight hour had come at last, when he would need him most. Above, the crew’s laughter seeped through the boards. Footsteps echoed, then drew closer—a clatter in the passage. He pressed flat to the wall, breath held, adrenaline twisting his stomach. But the boots passed him by. Relived, he continued on, quiet as a thief. The prince’s door creaked softly on its hinges. For a moment even the sea seemed to still, the ship hanging suspended, as if it too knew destiny was about to unfold. The chamber was modest, as befitted one so noble in spirit. The air was heavy with the evidence of his prince’s trials. Spilled rum gone stale in the boards, old sweat soaked into the linens, a floral bitter-sweetness hung like incense all around. Empty bottles lay strewn across the floor. Moonlight caught their glassy throats, setting them glittering like false jewels. And there upon the narrow cot lay his poor defenceless rose. Izzy rested on his side, dark hair falling across his brow in sleep's sweet surrender. He wore nothing but thin undergarments. Rough wool blankets lay kicked aside, revealing the vulnerable expanse of scarred skin that daylight normally kept hidden. A battered tin mug lay on its side near the bunk, a smear of syrup-dark dregs glinting at its rim. His prosthetic leg leaned against the wall nearby. This, Izzy’s utter certainty that he was safe on his ship, stirred a tenderness in Stede that he could scarce contain. How perfectly peaceful he looked without the harsh edges that waking brought. No sharp words or scornful glares to mar his beautiful face, only the gentle rise and fall of unguarded breathing. The planking beneath his feet groaned faintly as Stede approached the bedside with reverent, unsteady steps. At last, the moment had come—here destiny had placed true love's test before a worthy heart, and he felt his pulse jump in anticipation. Trembling fingers traced the air above Izzy's cheek, not quite touching, savouring the moment. How many nights had he suffered under this enchantment? Too many. Far too many. But true love's kiss could break the strongest spell. He leaned closer, voice a cracked whisper in the stillness. "Sleep no more, my beautiful prince," he murmured, and pressed his lips gently to Izzy's. The bittersweetness lingering there made his knees weak with love. For a heartbeat, Stede waited, breath held in anticipation. But Izzy remained still, beautifully lost to all earthly concerns. A flicker of worry crossed Stede's features. But then understanding bloomed, pooling hot and low in his belly. Of course. The most precious treasures required the greatest devotion to claim. "Forgive me, my darling," Stede whispered, his thumb brushing across Izzy's lower lip. "I should have known. But true love is patient, and I have so much more to give." A thousand kisses, he swore silently. A thousand sweet touches to prove his love worthy. He began with tender reverence, pressing soft kisses to Izzy's forehead, his closed eyelids, the bridge of his nose. His lips found the sharp line of Izzy's jaw, then traced lower to the vulnerable hollow of his throat. His heart pounded with growing urgency as he worked ever harder to break the enchantment. Surely closer contact was needed. He mounted his prince, Izzy’s form warm and still beneath him. In this new position he could apply himself completely, his body moving in gentle rhythm as true love's urgency overtook him. "Such a dark curse," he murmured, his voice growing rougher with passionate fervour. The bed made soft creaking sounds under their weight. His mouth pressed to the side of Izzy's neck, lingering there, and his thumb brushed over a faded shadow just beneath the collarbone. "Oh, my darling, the cruel marks it leaves upon you." The kiss he pressed there was deeper, hungrier, teeth grazing flesh as he murmured, “But I shall heal what it has damaged.” True love demanded sacrifice; if the enchantment would not release his rose, then he must pluck it by force. His hands spread across Izzy’s chest, breath catching at the warmth, the steady rhythm beneath his palms. It drove his own pulse faster. His lips followed his touch, salt-sweet skin filled his mouth; coarse hair scraped his lips. His urgency rose, kisses slipping into bites; purple-dark bruises blooming beneath his loving care. The cabin air grew thick, stifling, sweat plastering his shirt to his back. Suddenly, a small, wounded sound came from the head of the bed, intruding on his rapture. Stede paused, frozen for one breathless moment, then his eyes lifted to Izzy’s face. He couldn’t bear to release the flesh between his teeth, so Stede waited, his own breath rebounding hot against his face. Izzy didn't wake. Newly determined, his touch turned savage—teeth sinking, nails carving half-moons into skin. To the untrained eye it might have seemed like he was punishing his rose’s interruption. But he knew this was the only way. The intoxicating power of it all left him gasping, hips driving closer, again and again. The curse could wait no longer. "Forgive me," Stede breathed, his trembling hands sliding Izzy's undergarments down and away. His fingers caressed the cloth, still warm from Izzy’s body heat. He pressed it briefly to his face and set it carefully beside the bed. The truncated leg, so vulnerable without its wooden extension, made his heart ache—though it made laying his beloved bare much easier. His own clothing felt suffocating now; the fall-front of his breeches came undone with fumbling urgency. "I know what you need," he whispered into the darkness.
