“Surprisingly socially functional for an academic"
There’s nowhere quite like home, even on a dreich Autumn day.

If I had to select a specialist subject for Mastermind, I reckon the geographic spread of these guys across the UK would now see me to victory.

A productive afternoon with littlest family member ahead of her party tomorrow 🎩

Aaaaaand…knackered.

There are definitely worse ways to spend a Saturday than puppy sitting.

Also, interestingly, in my mailbox today...

It's like Outlook saw your show and has planned its communication accordingly.

@watsoncomedian.bsky.social

What was that you were saying about needy companies sending you emails...?

Careers really are much better when you work with the very best people.

Completely lovely gift today from equally lovely humans.

Took littlest to the gorgeous children’s bookshop, How Brave is The Wren, in King’s Heath this afternoon to see one of her favourite people, @alexhorne.bsky.social, & collect 50 copies of the @thehornesection.bsky.social’s super Make Some Noise 🎼🎶

#SchoolTasking prizes for 25-26 sorted!

This is the 3rd time I’ve seen them live. The 1st was at Jodrell Bank with images projected onto the satellite.

The 2nd at a warehouse rehearsing their festival set where we were close enough to take the photo below.

Three of the most memorable gigs of my life.

Stunningly beautiful music.

Sigur Ros in the Royal Albert Hall with a full orchestra, organist & choir is quite simply one of the most spectacular & moving things I have seen (well, heard really) in my life.

Some things are exciting even when you work for #Taskmaster 🏆

Booking some tickets for a colleague from Leicester to Edinburgh & he needs to be nearer Haymarket so thought I would book a train to and from there.

Turns out, despite it being the same train, it's more than double the price to disembark the train 6 minutes EARLIER.

Our railways are fucked.

I can highly recommend mine.

I think in this video Ewan McGregor beautifully encapsulates every expat Scot.

This is certainly more useful than Singer's sewing machine advice from 1949.

And here is more evidence that indies are the best. Picked up these gorgeous books at the Three Counties Bookshop in Ledbury for £10 each. £10! An absolute bargain and they're stunningly beautiful 📚

Shopping at independent bookshops (& gifting their vouchers) is a small thing you can do that really makes a difference 📚

If you're lucky enough to have a beautiful indie on your doorstep (mine below & it's gorgeous), do take the time to go there instead of further lining Jeff Bezos's pockets.

That’s more like it.

Views from the summits of Tolmount, Tom Buidhe & Carn an Tuirc.

The Scottish mountains really are heaven on earth on a peaceful, sunny day.

And whilst we were away, my 5yo drew this wonderful picture.

Particular features I enjoy: (i) our gravity-defying ascent; (ii) huts on top of the mountain (these would have been welcomed due to aforementioned hail storm & 50mph winds); & (iii) the fact that I have been assigned the biggest hut.

Overlooking the hail storm to the face in 50mph winds as we approached the summit, another great day in the Scottish hills with friends & a chance to drive through stunning Glen Strathfarrar.

Hoping for a better weather day & more visibility tomorrow at Glenshee for day's walking with my Dad.

I'll just leave this here without comment.

Not just the Midlands...

One of my colleagues aptly pointed out that maybe universities should try staying WITHIN (their budget, and then we wouldn't be in this fine mess).

Something tells me there's going to be an increase in the number of posts along these lines in all of our futures.

*despairs*

It's alright round these parts 🌴

Holiday mode was well and truly engaged last week in Pembrokeshire, but this week, chapter-writing mode needs to be equally as engaged.

Something tells me that's not going to be quite so easy...
