I'm a big fan of Drayanos hacks like Renegade Platinum. He rebalances Pokemon to make them all fun to use, and only raises the difficulty to that of an SMT game roughly. You have to think a little bit about your team, but don't have to use any competitive type builds or care about IVs.

It's gravy for me. Good gravy makes nearly every part of the meal better.
