Decided to post some of my other poetry I’ve done. None of this has been revised or even reviewed since it’s been written, I just enjoy sharing my work. #writing #poetry
I took a look at my brain I found it mangled and melted Shattered in so many ways I tried glue but it wouldn’t dry, So I left it a pile in my skull. I took a look at my heart I found it disgusting and disfigured Warped in so many ways I tried tape but it wouldn’t hold, So I left it to rot in my ribs. I took a look at my soul I found it polluted and pointless Ruined in so many ways I tried thread but it wouldn’t tie, So I left it to decay within me. And when I looked at my body, A collection of damaged pieces, I found it corroded and cumbersome Wrong in so many ways I tried to lie but it wouldn’t help, So this time I’ll tell the truth. He stares at the paper And he stares at the words He finds flaws in every letter, Mistakes in every sentance, Imperfections in every stanza. He taps his pen against the paper, He taps his fingers against the keys. He erases and deletes, He rewrites and reworks. Draft after draft, He sees no good. He believes no positive feedback, He takes the negatives to heart. Compliments are pointless, Criticisms are personal. He ponders his purpose, He concludes he has none. His ideas die with him, And the world will never know them.

Flowers I know, by winter they will be gone. And still I tend to them. Amid the vast fields of life, surely, there must be a place where this weary soul can breathe. Somewhere, beyond the inscrutable blue. Beyond the unbearable heat of all the precious dust.   Maybe it's more than just a mirage, this realm of hope. Through the morning mist, I see invisible gardens, swaying to the quiet, untamable song of love. One of my favorite exercises my creative writing teacher ever did was his yearly “Monster more human than most” poem. The challenge was to take a classic monster and give them a twist to make them seem more human. This was my take on it last year!

Parts twist and tangle Merge and mangle Constrict and release- A horrifying form, Bright red lumps Bulging with puss Every inch of the form Covered in a thin layer Of dark and greasy hair Pale skin slicked with sweat The form of a human teenager, So disgusting to most, and yet so normal. Parts twist and tangle Merge and mangle Constrict and release- A beautiful form, Skin free of bumps Long blonde hair In only the right places Blue eyes like crystal Hidden behind long lashes Decorated with glitters The form of a human beauty standard, So beautiful to most, and yet so objectified. Parts twist and tangle Merge and mangle Constrict and release- A wise form, Wrinkles and creases Thinning white hair Experienced eyes Behind thick glasses Shaky hand gripping Onto a cane The form of an intelligent human, So beloved by most, and yet still fading. Parts twist and tangle Merge and mangle Constrict and release- Nothing. Swirling mass, Turning on itself Looking in the mirror With what eyes it still has Screaming and pleading For a form to take Something that feels right. A form from the nightmares of most, yet it lies within us all.
