Narrative Programmer, Video game engineer. Helping others tell the best stories they can.

Huge dragon. Small kitsune. Sometimes professional, sometimes silly. Tired of hiding so you get both.

Trans ace disaster catgirl. She/Her.
Being good at something and enjoying doing it are sadly unrelated.

I hate being scared. I'm TIRED of being scared. I'm exhausted of being scared. I don't think I can last 40 more years of being scared.

Thank you!! This review summed up the thoughts I was struggling so hard to put into words.

On one hand, its so beautiful and so fun to move around in. On the other - Did you enjoy Deepnest? Blighttown? The Tower of Latria? Then Silksong is for you! They pulled inspiration from the worst things!

You've overheard the people talk of souls before: ephemeral things that are the essence of a life.

They don't know if souls exist, but you do. Yours is strapped safely inside your cockpit.

You stretch though pre-mission checks, the one of you that is both. Together. Whole.

And then you RUN.

You lost an entire leg once. You remember the emptiness of part of you missing, and the wholeness when it was replaced.

It doesn't even compare to Her strapping in.

You give her everything of yourself, every motor, sensor, and weapon. In return she fills you with life. You finally, truly awaken.

She stumbles, unsteady from the cocktail within, working at opposites.

She is wired from the injections that tighten her muscles and sharpen her mind; Numb from the gas that dulls her senses, so you can give her yours.

You release the locks, and open yourself to the only one allowed in.

Your sensors came online 01:02:51.917 ago. The hangar door opens, and She walks in.

Your Hound, your Pilot, your other half.

She has been with you since you first became operational. Each of you learning the other completely. Even your designers no longer know you as well as She does.

Your sensors came online 00:57:46.741 ago. The technicians have finally stopped crawling over you.

Every system runs green. Reactor freshly refueled, ammo banks stocked to the hilt.

You are restless, but immobile. A mech cannot operate without a pilot, and so you sit, and wait, and watch.

To flip the script:

Your sensors came online 00:00:01.154 ago. You are just booting up. The ship could tell you how long you have been offline, but you don't bother. The time between missions always passes in a blink. The number is meaningless.

You are waking up, and that means only one thing.

I saw a window sticker on a Prius that said:

"Nice Prius!"

And thinking more on this.. Doesn't Star Trek have like THE example of "beating the unbeatable combat sim"? The Kobayashi Maru! It's Kirk's whole THING.

Of everything, this is the only one I'm willing to look the other way on.

For huge endless sim games, or grand strategies like Crusader Kings, how many people use "beaten" to mean "fully explored and am done playing".

Its still a stretch, but it's the only believable stretch in this whole episode.

'"There is a tendency among the press to attribute the creation of a game to a single person" says Warren Specter, creator of Thief and Deus Ex' -IGN (Deus Ex 2 Review)

I wish this were new. But it does seem worse lately, especially in indie spaces.

I own the book! Do I count?

How is every single word of the flavor text even funnier than the last? I choked on my coffee several times trying to read that. Glorious!
