since it’s wip wednesday AND kagehina day have this!!! they’re evolving!! (the pining is only getting worse tho) #kagehina
They get to the gym a bit early for warmups, and while Hinata isn't running to the bathroom, so it must not be /that/ bad, he is pale and a bit shaky. He's muttering under his breath, and Kageyama can feel his eye twitching at the nonsense spilling out of his mouth. "Hey," Kageyama snaps at him, and Hinata jumps in place like Kageyama hasn't been at his side the whole time they've been changing their shoes. Kageyama narrows his eyes at him. "What's wrong with you?" Hinata glares at him. "I don't know! But you being mean won't help!" He huffs and stands up in a burst of movement, and Kageyama considers his tensed shoulders and thinks of how loose they are when Kageyama's hugging him. Kageyama blinks, Hinata's relaxed form and smiles when they hug coming to mind, the happy sighs and murmurs. It's basically the opposite of Hinata now -And Kageyama stands up before Hinata can stomp away. "Hey." Kageyama says, and Hinata glances over his shoulder at him. Kageyama frowns thoughtfully, “Would a. .. hug help?" There's something awkward about asking in this situation, but Kageyama waves that off easily. Hinata's glare melts to wide-eyed surprise, and then he's frowning too, considering. "Yeah, I think, maybe." Hinata agrees, and Kageyama nods seriously, then grabs his wrist and drags him off the court. Hinata squawks in surprise, but even as they gain the attention of their team and coach, no one tries to stop them. With warmups not started yet, Kageyama knows they have a few minutes until someone is sent to track them down.

Hinata asks for hugs a lot. Kageyama feels like a broken record, sometimes, in his thoughts-The repeating line whenever Hinata turns to him for one. He's painfully aware of how often it is, how often it's become. The first week, Kageyama swears, it wasn't /this/ many. Now it is every day without fail. And with Kageyama now given free rein to return the favor, the number has only increased. But it doesn't affect their volleyball, so Kageyama can't bring himself to care. Or at least, it /usually/ doesn't. Kageyama is aware he's being picky. But Hinata had asked for some extra tosses after Saturday practice, and Kageyama had agreed, but he's been waiting for at least two minutes and Hinata is still talking to Yamaguchi.

Chapter 2 Summary: "I did not think anyone would care," /or wake up,/ Kirishima leaves unsaid. Bakugo narrows his eyes at him. "Of course we would, idiot. If you haven't noticed, we /like/ having you here,” Kirishima doesn't know how to handle that, so he doesn't. He looks ahead again, at the rest of the group in front of them and the shimmering lake to their right, and stays quiet. He does not want to let that statement get to him.

Kageyama approaches right behind him, and that impatience he's felt the whole weekend fades as he collapses over Hinata, arms draped over his shoulders, and hugging him to his chest, Kageyama's chin propped up on his head. He leans his weight onto him as Hinata's story breaks with his squeak of surprise, stumbling slightly in place and Kageyama easily steadies them both.

"You idiot, why'd you go out alone in the middle of the night?" Bakugo demands, his hands coming up to pat Kirishima down for injuries, his shoulders relaxing when it's clear Kirishima is fine. Kirishima can still hear his heartbeat though, how fast it is in his chest, and knows it is a ruse. He stares up at the stars and listens, until eventually Bakugo does fall asleep again, and only then does Kirishima close his eyes.

"W-what?" Hinata squeaks, trying to pull out of Kageyama's arms, but Kageyama keeps him in place, his fingers sinking familiarly into Hinata's hair. "Nothing. Just looking." Kageyama replies, and Hinata's face somehow gets even redder. "At what!" He shrieks, and Kageyama frowns, because isn't it obvious? But then Hinata's pulling back again, and Kageyama lets him go, reluctantly, but they do need to get back to practice. Hinata stumbles free and he runs off to the court with an unintelligible excuse shouted behind him. Kageyama frowns at his back, wishing he had stayed a little longer.

Kageyama has been staring. He needs no one to tell him this. He thinks sometimes, the others-Mainly Suga-Think he does not know when he's staring at Hinata, but the truth is Kageyama knows and does not know how to stare unconsciously. Hinata draws his eyes a lot, and Kageyama has accepted it. He needs to keep an eye on Hinata in between matches anyway, so they stay on the same page. But it's practice right now, and Kageyama finds himself staring anyway.

the first chapter of my immortal dragon Kirishima fic will be posted tomorrow!!!
this fic is another born from my love of fantasy (think my fic “wild and free with you” if you’ve read it!) and it’s been very fun to write and explore
here’s a sneak peek before posting day 🐉
They walk with their food, Bakugo finally losing the edge of strain to his voice, becoming more relaxed as time goes on. His voice is rough, filled with swear words and insults, but calm and even, it makes Kirishima breathe deep and focus on it instead of drifting away. Bakugo pauses in his stories, looking over at Kirishima, "You don't have to answer, but, what's your name? You know all of ours already," Kirishima doesn't remember when the last time someone had asked. " . . Kirishima," He says slowly, unpracticed in his mouth, no need to speak it aloud. He's sure his first name would feel even rougher.
