Dunno how much of a meme this really is, but at least when I'm streaming Metroid games it kind of is.
TQUE BOUB SET!

PS: Horrendously stupid decision from Twitch. Not that that needs to be said for the umpteenth time.

This was a game that I was first introduced to at SGDQ 2012. CyberBotX did a speedrun of it for the event, and it looked like a really fun game, so I grabbed it once I got back home.
Overall a very fun game. Shame that the ending teased a sequel but we never got one.

The original may not have been the first one I played, and it may have relatively simple mechanics, but there's still a fair amount of depth under the hood.
That, and I speedrun it. Two separate versions for that matter. Have the record in both.

This was a very interesting take on a TRPG, utilizing the combo attacks that Valkyrie Profile was already known for, and actually making it worthwhile to set up overkilling enemies instead of just killing them. One of my favorite TRPGs to date.

This is one I've actually never owned, but again, one of my cousins did. Still one of my favorite shmups, and back when I was younger I actually did manage to beat it on Gamer difficulty with the hardest character.

This was a game I never actually owned as a kid, but my cousin did. I borrowed it way more times than I care to think about. I was also the only person in the family to actually finish it.
(Oh, and I'm the first and only person to claim a sub 40 minute time for full game)

This game is dumb. It's mostly just walking through room after room with almost nothing going on. Despite this, Mattrick and I still race it every year, right around Halloween.
(I never said we were smart)

I actually like the completely obtuse and non-straightforward character progression in this. The 7 somewhat distinct stories also felt mostly well done (Sorry Lute, not you), despite being a bit short for some.
Still need to play the remaster at some point.

Known as Lennus in Japan. No idea why they changed the name.
I won't claim this is the best game out there... it's definitely not. But I love it anyway.
(Also apparently I duplicated this at #17 and didn't notice. So now it's #24)

Keeping on with games that require mashing, this was another that tested my capabilities. I also played this way too much as a kid, despite how terrible and ungodly difficult it was.
See also: Dangerous Buildings, Hostile Hostels, Terrible Domiciles, etc.

This is a freeware game that I was introduced to by one of my stream viewers back in the day. Ended up liking it enough to speedrun it, and let me tell you, this was the first game to ever really push my mashing capabilities.
