Having played and completed one of these, I find it’s good if it’s more on the side for most of the campaign and then offered as reward for solving dungeons or quests. It can’t be tied to something the players can do, it’s what the DM can offer.

Yeah, same here. I got to the antechamber (which was already a super lucky run) and saw how much more I’d have to do, I just quit.
