This Mamadani win has felt good but i felt something missing, maybe im a doomer, maybe im just to far gone on the left but i agree with a lot of this post.
It looks like Mamdani is gonna be the next NYC mayor. Just know this, he will NOT change anything for the city because NYC mayors are not as politically powerful as they were since the late-mid 20th century. They must answer to the borough presidents, and borough presidents answer to real estate lobbyists. Do not look for answers within bourgeois elections, its a dead end. I am saying this as a Marxist-Leninist and member of the American Communist Party, who was a former progressive activist and organizer aligned with the Democrats. What we need is building dual power structures within the most neglected areas within the states we live in. Mamdani's failures will only be the clear signal that city politics is dead. Suburban areas will follow the decay of urban politics. We cannot do this by ourselves, we must rely on each other, me must improve ourselves in order to better serve our immediate communities, and we must help each other out if one of us is struggling. If you are stronger than your weaker friends, family, comrades, and fellow citizens, it is your obligation to help them become stronger. The neglected become vulnerable to insidious actors of the ruling class and too much of that is and has happened already. In a societal sense, that means rural communities will be hypnotized by fascists masquerading as representatives of the working class struggles. Newly lumpenized workers are often the foot soldiers of the ruling class because they are promised an easy way out of extreme poverty and/or homelessness, i.e. ICE agent recruits or mentally unstable young people groomed by the FBI to commit domestic terrorism in order to justify the crackdowns on our civil liberties. This timeline sucks right now and I've been struggling too but guess what, its temporary. But, do not let that make you complacent. Because things are gonna get worse, we more than ever must help each other out AND improve our own stations because, we CANNOT do this by ourselves. We need to be…
