I think the father had the gun licence and the son was on the ASIO radar 6 years ago. He would have been ~19 yrs old. So I can understand police/ASIO not seeing a current risk.

So sad to watch this totally avoidable clusterfuck from afar. We had a fabulous five weeks in the US last year, including NYC during the Trump trial, staying at the gorgeous Chelsea Hotel.
Chicago, Seattle, national parks, were all wonderful. Wouldn’t even contemplate going there now.
