September 27th I will be leading a visit to the Dragoon Springs Stage Station and also to the Cochise-Howard Treaty Site for Old Pueblo Archaeology Center. In prep I reviewed materials because it has been so long since I thought about this. So I prepared this video.

Collectors have weapons that are characteristic of the Coronado Expedition. This is a reproduction of a snapping/ button matchlock (snap lock) which might have been the weapon of choice for this expedition. We only find pieces so I've been documenting the interior elements that we have found.

I've been measuring, weighing, & photo documenting Spanish horseshoes in collections and the artifacts with them to construct a meaningful horseshoe typology. Temporal changes indicate which are related to the Coronado expedition. This is a later shoe, nail, strike-a-light, & flint.

We fired the replica of the first cannon today. I've been waiting since September 2020 to hear what the blast sounds like. Enough to scare anyone into submission. Impressive. Keith Gibson did an outstanding job tooling this.

Love it when the radiocarbon date from a thermal feature comes back right on the money: (95.4%) 1483 - 1644 cal AD (467 - 306 cal BP)
El Campo del Cascabeles overnight encampment on the Coronado expedition route between Suya and Chichilticale. The artifacts left no doubt but the date is icing.
