A new oceanography lab this term was watching the Mysterious episode of the PBS series Big Pacific. Overwhelmingly, the students' favorite moment was this lil male pufferfish that makes sand art to attract a mate. He decorates the finished circle with shells.

"We're concerned about the life-threatening C emissions AI produces & the disproportionate impact on communities of color all over the planet. I finally got a good look (and shitty iphone photo) at the red shouldered hawks screaming in my neighborhood. I got a better view of the two with binoculars, the red-brown feathers are so pretty. One flew off after I got a good look. They have black & white speckled wings, stunning birds. 🪶

🧪 Decided to do a better job connecting the atmosphere & lithosphere for my Earth Systems Science class that starts next week, found this gem from old gradschool buds. Moderate relief & erosion rates optimize CO2 drawdown from chemical weathering www.science.org/doi/abs/10.1...

"The gift economy is subversive & delicious." The Serviceberry is a snack of a book about community engagement & reciprocity in the natural world. I love that cedar waxwings show up prominently bc I've loved them since I was a kid but only saw & heard a flock of them for the first time this month
