The criticism is valid if you are expecting to know who the characters are ahead of time, but that's not the point of this series.
It doesn't bother me, just amuses me, no story is going to appeal to everyone.

Most of the comments on it love it.
One of the few complaints was about not knowing who the woman was ahead of time. They did say the writing was good, just that it wasn't erotic due to that.

Like, that is the entire point of the series.
