I’d like to say that you can at least do some sort of risk assessment (i.e. likelihood x impact) but I can’t argue that such a forecast would ever actually be verifiable *before* the next bad things happen.

Significant overlap between folks who used Reader a dozen-plus years ago and folks in a position to influence corporate technology choices today. Forgive? Maybe. Forget? No.

Time to start ordering better snacks for the break room, bossman.

The key difference is that the principal will *usually* have the decency to feel some guilt over the ever-widening gulf between their own day to day and the lived experience of front-line programmers.

Programmers across Bluesky wincing as they realize they’ve found themselves contemplating a Big O(r^2) problem on a weekend.

Tree man, on the property walk, next to the stomach bug? It’s more likely than you think.

Do you ever worry that you’re actually a sock puppet operated by a dozen bsky staffers working follow-the-sun shifts, Weird Twitter style?

Makes a ton of sense! What I don’t get is how few programmers approach their work with the same mindset. If you don’t have a million personal scripts and custom configs what are you even doing?

There’s also an ego-preserving misdirection going on: if people don’t like someone’s AI-generated “writing” it must mean that the LLM did it wrong, not that the operator himself is a bad writer

My current theory is that LLMs are extra fun for people who think of themselves as too busy to write… or read

Yeah people are scared of anything with even the slightest bit of effort put into presentation nowadays, assuming it’s AI slop bsky.app/profile/dpri...
It really burns having to watch the internet grow rightfully skeptical of posters with conspicuous layout and formatting choices, viewing them as a sign of AI-generated slop.

That *used* to be the domain of thoughtful technical writers and ransom notes.
