#TIL, thanks to Lindsay Schakenbach Regele’s new biography of Joel Roberts Poinsett, that Poinsett wasn’t Secretary of State John Quincy Adams’s first choice as U.S. Minister to Mexico. Who was? None other than Andrew Jackson… 😳🤔😮
