NEBRASKA HUMANE SOCIETY Cold Weather Safety When it's cold out, it's important to make sure your pets are safe! The best option is simply allowing your pets indoors during cold weather! When they're outside. - Dog houses should be solid wood structures with a flap on the opening. - Straw provides warmth. Don't use blankets as they become wet and can freeze. - Use heated water bowls to keep them from freezing. On walks... - Pay attention to ears and toes. They're susceptible to frostbite. - After each walk, wash and dry your pet's feet and stomach to remove ice and salt. - If your dog is short-haired, consider getting them a coat or sweater. Call Animal Control if you suspect an animal is suffering in the cold weather. 402-444-7800 Ext. 1

Between rains.

Instead of falling asleep by counting sheep, I fall asleep trying to list all the different kinds of rain.

You've probably seen stories about people who had received messages from loved ones who had passed. I dragged myself out for a walk on the water last winter, very present to these stories and desperate for one of my own. This is what I saw that night.
