We shouldn’t have been too surprised when Django went full parkour mode 😂 (This is down at the Guzzle in Grand Pré right up on top of the dyke, which extends for about eight kilometres and protects hundreds of acres of below-sea-level land from the Bay of Fundy.) #galgo #greyhound

We’re down at the cottage for our last stay before it gets shut down for winter / and Django quickly went into cottage mode 😂 i.e. ‘wake up, dad, the sun’s coming up’ #galgo #greyhound

We overshot International Black Dog Day by a bit, but here’s a vintage shot of Django (age about 15 months in 2021), followed by a more recent one from a few months ago (age about five years.) He’ll always be my little black hound no matter how white he gets 😊 #galgo #greyhound

We almost didn’t make it down to Annapolis Royal this summer, but here we are! First stop was the little dog park behind the town, where Django sniffed and peed and romped and fetched. #galgo #greyhound

We found the perfect garden gate to keep Django in the backyard / for a couple of years we’ve been dragging plant stands or pots in front of the opening to keep him from escaping 😂 / this is a major upgrade in #galgo security plus it might discourage some local riff-raff from trespassing #greyhound

We have the very good fortune to live about a block and a half from one of the Top 100 pizzerias in the world! I had the Don Camillo with the spicy calabrese, and I absolutely went home with a bottle of their hot chili oil / bravo #LouPecou

Update: looking at yesterday’s post reminded me that we forgot to paint the front doors! I needed something to do today anyway 😂

I’m sure our neighbours think we are the slowest house painters ever 😂 it took about a month to do just this front (both sides). But in our defence, it’s fiddly work plus we are pretty careful 🤷♂️ / we had to sacrifice the left garden because it would have gotten stomped anyway so it’s a major reset

My main reason for travel these days is… concerts! I’ve been to Seattle and LA (during Biden era 😊) and Toronto and Montreal for shows fairly recently. So imagine my delight when I was able to walk from my house to downtown Halifax to see #VanceJoy perform tonight. Fantastic show. Love this guy.
A fun experiment today: an improvised water feature fashioned from a waterproof tub, some aquatic plants from a friend, and a few surplus floating solar fountains. (Our friends have a proper pond so we have an endless supply of water hyacinth if these don’t make it) 😂 #waterfeature #garden

This went up during the recent #HalifaxMuralFestival (Falkland St) but we hadn’t seen it until today / we immediately decided that we’ll lobby for at least one side of our house to get this treatment one of these days - imagine someone else painting your house for free plus it becomes public art!

We had to farm Django out for a couple of days, as today there’s a big celebration up at the cottage for Robin’s mom’s 90th birthday! So himself is enjoying a getaway with his Auntie Annette and Uncle Darryl (photos by Darryl) / he has probably already had steak 😂 he gets the royal treatment #galgo

Another long-neglected little project seen to today… our bedroom windows (which overlook the back garden) were replaced a few years ago and we had just never gotten around to finishing them with the aluminium cladding - until today! Super satisfying job 😊

So we’ve been painting our house since we arrived back in the city from the cottage - and today was the day for some of the highest-up bits which even our 30 foot ladder can’t quite safely get us to. Today is the hottest day so far, so we started early but still miserable up there 🔥 nice view though

Django is playing his cards right to get some salade niçoise - this dog gets a little bit of people food every day… our poor late dogs never had any! What awful people we are 😂 anyway, we found out recently that Django likes watermelon #galgo #greyhound #Skyhounds

Gateway species to birdwatching? 😂 I had a ball watching this Monarch frolicking around the garden earlier today - between the Monarchs and all the birds in our trees this summer, I feel like I’ve terraformed a desert planet - not to overstate anything of course 😂

This Asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed/milkweed) is in the ‘native plants’ district of our back garden, so I’m pretty sure we got it at a plant sale locally - in any event, it hasn’t flowered before or I would have noticed that amazing colour! #milkweed #asclepiastuberosa

I was just wondering yesterday when we’d see our first #Monarchbutterfly of the season - this was today, and quite a big one! It’s a pretty good year for the #milkweed in our garden so they are having a good feed, we hope
