We know about the Stone Age, Bronze Age, etc. The truth is, we have always been in the Wood Age, but wood does not preserve well in the fossil record. Larry Barham and colleagues found a wood structure in Zambia, made 476,000 years ago, probably by Homo heidelbergensis. It's an amazing find.

My 2021 reconstruction of the Early Cretaceous tree-fern Weichselia reticulata based on Blanco‐Moreno et al. 2020 (stem) and 2019 (leaves). This plant was common across much of the world in the Early/"Middle" Cretaceous period, including the Bernissart Iguanodon pit, Las Hoyas and Kem Kem beds.
