Yeah, echoing @sagastar.bsky.social , in your defense, the GWB administration used 9/11 to build a narrative where they could accomplish their pre-existing goals, and brushed over anything that didn't fit into it. It's not a mistake that this is the first you're hearing of it!

I think a large subset of people has based their entire identity on "being a good person because I am a Democrat" and will just slavishly support them no matter what they do to desperately keep the floor from dropping out

Agree with this entirely. And I think this goes hand in hand with another aspect, which is watching the government and the corporations it's entwined with deliver so much suffering and death, then saying "But this time it's bad". People just can't take it seriously.
