I became convinced he’s never going to finish it because the fan reaction to the end of Game of Thrones rattled him. That was his ending and people did not like it. (The showrunners also bungled it.) He either doesn’t know how to change it, or doesn’t want to.

Gotcha. It’s that the change in effort required to improve beyond 90 or 95 percent becomes exponential.

For abusers the calculus would be different because the harm you’re trying to stop is a threat to a person’s safety and welfare, rather than fraudulent benefits payouts.

Authoritarianism is central to how he uses power. Lose that and the rest falls apart. The credible threat of breaking the law or ignoring the courts or using violence against Americans allows him to get away with how he uses power.
